The Similan islands are certainly one of the finest diving locations in Asia. In fact, they are consistently ranked as one of the top 10 dive sites worldwide. The combination of rich marine life and gorgeous coral reefs make it a world class underwater paradise for divers. Located about 95km NW of Phuket, this group of nine remote islands was designated a national park in 1982; since then, the conservation and protection of the islands and the dive sites therein have been a priority for the Thai government.

Nearly all of the 9 islands are surrounded by huge underwater rock formation, eroded by the action of a relentless sea. The Similan boast more than 20 documented dive sites, scattered about the islands. Sites on the western side of the islands offer dramatic drop-offs and archways with depths often reaching 40 meters or more, formed by huge granite boulders which are completely covered with colourful soft coral. On the eastern side, hard coral gardens slope gradually to 10 to 12 meters, where massive schools of colourful tropical fish are attracted to the nutrient rich waters.

Populated by over 500 species of hard and soft corals and an amazing variety of marine life including leopard sharks, silvertip reef sharks, guitar rays, manta rays and the awe inspiring whale shark, the Similan Islands are a true diver’s paradise waiting to be explored. Liveaboards are by far the most popular and efficient way to dive the Similan - you can discover the best dive sites without the rush of a daytrip, and enjoy the life onboard with your dive buddies between and after your dives. Most Liveaboard trips originate from one of two key departure points – Khao Lak, 60km east of the islands, or Phuket – and can be simple overnighters or extensive 3 -7 day excursions…your choice. You will find below a great selection of Liveaboards that offer both day trips and longer excursions that will take you to the Similans, Surin islands and Burma banks.

Any of these boats offer great service, great comfort and safety and plenty of great food all along your trip. It will be an amazing experience that anyone should take!

We welcome you to browse through the Liveaboards we have on offer and choose the one that suits you best…

M/V FLYING SEAHORSE

The M/V Flying Seahorse is a live aboard boat, which already made some Similan safaris and now cruises the sea around Koh Lanta since October. In summer 2006, the boat has been completely renovated and modified. On the main deck you find 8 cabins with air condition. Two cabins have double beds; six are two bunk bed cabins.

Fully booked, the M/V Flying Seahorse accommodates a maximum of 16 divers. All cabins are equipped with 220V power sockets for you to reload rechargeable batteries of your cameras or torches. Electricity on board is available 24 h.
On the upper deck, there is a wide, open area where we will have meals and where you always find coffee, tea, cold drinking water, electrolyte drinks. You might as well want to have a look at your underwater pictures, videos or see a DVD-movie on our TV set. In the bow you find the helm stand. This is the private area and cabin of our captain.

For breakfast, we serve alternating: toast, dark bread, eggs any style, sausages, ham, cornflakes, muesli, coffee, tea. For lunch and dinner we have traditional Thai style food as well as European food. If you have any suggestions, let us know. We also make arrangements for vegetarians and can provide less spicy dishes.

In the back of the main deck, you find the kitchen, the wet area and the diving platform where there are lots of spaces for you to keep all your equipment. Two air cooled compressors provide fresh and clean air for the 20 tanks (12 l aluminium tanks, INT/DIN-valves). That makes diving more fun than on daytrip boats, and much more relaxing. Two Thai boat boys are looking forward to helping you on and off the boat as well as with your equipment. Two WC/shower-cabins (hot water) and two more Sweetwater showers on the diving platform improve your comfort.
